Over the last couple of seasons it has been our goal to create a division called the Intact Division. We wanted to create such a division in order to provide as much quality baseball as possible in order to meet the baseball needs of all level of players. This program has been implemented in most of the Cal Ripken programs across the country. As the Southern California Cal Ripken State Commissioner and Current President of Los Altos Youth Baseball and Softball, I felt it was time to move our program in this direction. Recently the LAYBS Board of Directors approved this program and we will be offering it starting this 2021 Spring Season. 

The ultimate goal of our Intact program will be to have 4 team divisions at each age group. These would not be outside teams but rather teams that will be registered Los Altos Players. There would be a recreation division and intact division. As we start the 2021 season there will only be one (1)  team per division, unless otherwise approved by the board of directors. Players that are interested in the intact program must be registered per the normal registration process, which means they must register for a division. All age appropriate players will then have a two day tryout on a date to be decided by the coaching staffs and board of directors. These try outs will take place before the recreation evaluations. This will allow any players not being selected to be entered into the recreation draft as normal. 

The intact division is not a travel ball team, while it has similar qualities of travel ball, it is a team that stays together for a period of one year and then we have another tryout period at the conclusion of one year. The season would include spring, summer and fall with a required break in December. The fees for players would be the normal registration fee as set forth by the LAYBS board of directors. This allows the same amenities for intact and recreation teams such as practice times on fields, game times and batting cage use. However, there will be additional cost(s) associated with tournaments and in some circumstances paid coaches. To simplify it there will be a registration fee for the spring season and then a registration fee for the fall season just like the current process. There will be a monthly fee that will be determined by each coaching staff that will cover tournament fees, coaching, uniforms and other items. On average, the monthly fee will be between $150 - $200. 

Please know that the intact team will not represent Los Altos in All Star play. Any player rostered on an intact team will not be eligible for All Stars. Intact coaches will be approved by the board of directors We will be announcing the coaches next week and notifying everyone of the official evaluation dates. Right now all field permits have been suspended due to COVID guidelines. Our tryouts for the intact division and evaluations for the recreation division are pending as we await for the approval of the city to get back on the fields. You will be receiving a league wide update very soon with updated information.
